لَاۤ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ
﴿١﴾
I swear by this city, Makkah -(1)
Tafseer:
وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ
﴿٢﴾
And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -(2)
Tafseer:
وَوَالِدࣲ وَمَا وَلَدَ
﴿٣﴾
And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],(3)
Tafseer:
لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ فِی كَبَدٍ
﴿٤﴾
We have certainly created man into hardship.(4)
Tafseer:
أَیَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن یَقۡدِرَ عَلَیۡهِ أَحَدࣱ
﴿٥﴾
Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?(5)
Tafseer:
یَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالࣰا لُّبَدًا
﴿٦﴾
He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."(6)
Tafseer:
أَیَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ یَرَهُۥۤ أَحَدٌ
﴿٧﴾
Does he think that no one has seen him?(7)
Tafseer:
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَیۡنَیۡنِ
﴿٨﴾
Have We not made for him two eyes?(8)
Tafseer:
وَلِسَانࣰا وَشَفَتَیۡنِ
﴿٩﴾
And a tongue and two lips?(9)
Tafseer:
وَهَدَیۡنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَیۡنِ
﴿١٠﴾
And have shown him the two ways?(10)
Tafseer:
فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ
﴿١١﴾
But he has not broken through the difficult pass.(11)
Tafseer:
وَمَاۤ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ
﴿١٢﴾
And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?(12)
Tafseer:
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
﴿١٣﴾
It is the freeing of a slave(13)
Tafseer:
أَوۡ إِطۡعَـٰمࣱ فِی یَوۡمࣲ ذِی مَسۡغَبَةࣲ
﴿١٤﴾
Or feeding on a day of severe hunger(14)
Tafseer:
یَتِیمࣰا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ
﴿١٥﴾
An orphan of near relationship(15)
Tafseer:
أَوۡ مِسۡكِینࣰا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةࣲ
﴿١٦﴾
Or a needy person in misery(16)
Tafseer:
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ
﴿١٧﴾
And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.(17)
Tafseer:
أُوْلَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَیۡمَنَةِ
﴿١٨﴾
Those are the companions of the right.(18)
Tafseer:
وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔایَـٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ
﴿١٩﴾
But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.(19)
Tafseer:
عَلَیۡهِمۡ نَارࣱ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ
﴿٢٠﴾
Over them will be fire closed in.(20)
