Surah Ash-Shams (The Sun) - Aya count 15

وَٱلشَّمۡسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا ﴿١﴾

By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour;


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا ﴿٢﴾

By the Moon as she follows him;


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا ﴿٣﴾

By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory;


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

وَٱلَّیۡلِ إِذَا یَغۡشَىٰهَا ﴿٤﴾

By the Night as it conceals it;


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

وَٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا ﴿٥﴾

By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure;


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا ﴿٦﴾

By the Earth and its (wide) expanse:


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

وَنَفۡسࣲ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا ﴿٧﴾

By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it;


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا ﴿٨﴾

And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;-


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا ﴿٩﴾

Truly he succeeds that purifies it,


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا ﴿١٠﴾

And he fails that corrupts it!


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِطَغۡوَىٰهَاۤ ﴿١١﴾

The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing,

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشۡقَىٰهَا ﴿١٢﴾

Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety).


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقۡیَـٰهَا ﴿١٣﴾

But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!"


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمۡدَمَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمۡ فَسَوَّىٰهَا ﴿١٤﴾

Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)!


Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:

وَلَا یَخَافُ عُقۡبَـٰهَا ﴿١٥﴾

And for Him is no fear of its consequences.
